Description
An oil painting of the reception of François Pidou de Saint Olon, Ambassador of King Louis XIV of France, by Sultan Moulay Ismael of Morocco on 19 June 1693.
Sultan Isma'il is pictured riding a horse in the center of the image. Ambassador François is the figure wearing a tricorne hat to the right of Sultan Isma'il. To the left of the sultan are two people with darker complexions than everyone else in the painting. These were likely black slaves who served in the sultan's armies and royal courts.
