Sisterhood and Brotherhood

KSU MGC welcome the Alpha Chi chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/ Senoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority Inc. The Founding Line is pictured with members of Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority and Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity.

The sisterhood and brotherhood aspect of MGC is something that provides an extra layer of support for diverse students. They provide students with a group of people who will give them unconditional support not only throughout college but also for life. The people in Greek organizations share similar values and beliefs that further solidify bonds between members. Especially in Predominantly White Institutions, MGC can provide a sense of belonging and a home away from home for diverse students who are adjusting to college life and searching for a place to fit in. Additionally, members of MGC can embrace their diversity and learn about the various cultures and backgrounds that exist within the council.

"When you come into a room like this [predominantly Latino] you already know you have shared experiences and shared stories. Theres like a hidden understood truth between one another ... there’s brothers that you have, to this day, that you talk to who will check on you, they’re honest, they’re just lifelong friends that you develop”

- David Catalan Perez, Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Inc.

“I know a lot of the council is Latino or Latino based but it never made me feel any type of way about it … They get to learn about my culture, and I learn about theirs ... I’m a very cultural person; I identify as Nigerian American … I feel like I wouldn’t be able to be myself if I had joined another council"

- Elizabeth Adebambo, Omega Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
