Mumbet Court Case

Elizabeth Mumbet was a slave woman whom sued for freedom upon hearing the new Massachusetts Constitution being read out loud. She believed that the languaged of the constitution granted her freedom. She had won her court case and soon after other slaves were suing for freedom. Eventually, it was decided that the state constitution outlawed slavery.
